Gucci Gucci

June 15, 2011 at 10:46 pm (fashion, music) (, , , , , , , , , )

The real reason I don’t wear Gucci, Prada, or Louis.  And its not because I’m broke.

First I thought this was terrible, but now I like. It is kinda funny though. Rappers gotta step up their game. These white girls are in it now. lol

A rip off or the power of the chords?

April 29, 2011 at 1:31 pm (music) (, , , , , , , , , , , , , , )

Everyone’s been ripping into Lady Gaga for copying Madonna’s Express Yourself for her song Born this Way.  Lady Gaga said the chord progression was similar because she used one from disco.  Which I suppose Madonna would have as well since there were grumblings of her stealing from The Staple Singers Respect Yourself. Fortunately for Madonna and unfortunately for Lady Gaga, Respect Yourself isn’t as mainstream as taking from Express Yourself.  But after seeing this vid I truly wonder how many sound combinations there are to make in music.  Especially since everyone from Journey to the Red Hot Chili Peppers and the Black Eyed Peas used the same four chords.

Gagavision & Fundamentalists

April 7, 2011 at 3:49 pm (pop culture) (, , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , )

Gaga brings back Gagavision after a long awaited interval.  Wondering about the song playing when she’s looking at the Get out of Hell free card? Its Ladytron Seventeen. Lady Gaga listens to Ladytron lol.

Ok so more importantly what good does a Get out of Hell free card do? Like does that give her a free license to do whatever she wants because if she was sent there she can get out? Thats a real smart fundamentalist for you… A fundamentalist protester once gave me a billion dollar bill which I’m definitely keeping because who wouldn’t want a billion dollar bill?

One Billion Dollar Bill

Whose the guy on the bill?  Maybe their leader? Who knows.

Woah Diva!

April 5, 2011 at 8:33 pm (music, pop culture) (, , , , , , )

Tsk Tsk Natalia Kills vid for Zombie is cool, but why the similarities to Diva? The vid seems for relevant to Zombie. For one, what’s a Diva doing blowing up a car full of manikins? But hey whatever floats your boat.

What do you think of the vids? Too similar?

My beautiful dark twisted fantasy

December 10, 2010 at 11:58 pm (music, Uncategorized) (, , , , , , , , , , , , )

This is a review on Kanye’s album, not my own beautiful dark twisted fantasy. That would more than likely interest you, but thats not something I would put on a blog. Maybe Kanye would. Actually I know he would. No need to discuss that.

So the album is amazing and everyone else is talking about it, so why would I? No one wants a blog that says what everyone else says cuz that would be instant death.

So here goes: the album is amazing because it combines the old school with the things of today. And the craftmanship in the production is astounding. Its got the old skool hip hop feel, but with autotune and plenty of rap (of course).   This album reminds me of Curtis Mayfield actually. Not when he was with the Impressions, but afterward when he started doing Funk.

And if you haven’t seen the Runaway video watch it.  Its what Kanye shows that he believes to be beautiful, well at least while making this album.  I can’t say he thinks or feels the same way for long, its just that this vid shows for at least a moment what he feels to be beautiful. It is not a waste of your 35 minutes. This vid is Kanye’s version of Michael Jackson’s Moonwalker and it’s got a tribute to him in it. Its very minimalistic, has Selita Ebanks, and a lot of ballerinas.  Its definitely at least a little twisted, but it goes well with his Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy.

Singin’ in the Rain

November 26, 2010 at 9:24 pm (movies, music, pop culture) (, , , , , , , , , , )

I watched Singin’ in the Rain in time for Glee, but I really should have watched it before. It is truly a good musical.  The singing was good, I had Singin’ in the Rain in my head for a while after watching the movie. What was really funny were the jokes on bad dubbing.  The movie made fun of dubbing before bad dubbin was done on Kung Fu movies and  it basically knew Milli Vanilli would happen.

If you don’t know Milli Vanilli was a total fake. They had other singers sing for them but unlike Debbie Reynolds’ character, they didn’t get a big break after Milli Vanilli were found to be fakes. I wonder if they wanted to be stars themselves or if they were fine in the background. Not everyone wants to be the star, even if they can sing.

But to make a circular connection to Singin in the Rain, Milli Vanilli did a song called Blame it on the Rain.

What can I say? Lip Syncing is dangerous. Look what it did to Ashlee Simpson.

Gaga’s VMAs

September 17, 2010 at 8:48 pm (music, pop culture) (, , , , , , , , )

I thought Lady Gaga’s escorts were awesome.  It was ashame they were all discharged.  And Gaga looks awesome here. (And the whole time really).

Chelsea Handler’s Bad Romance came complete with a house on her head.

Gaga couldn’t even walk in this dress.

Meat dress!  I saw it and just started yelling meat, meat, she’s wearing meat!

It was truly Gaga’s night. 8 wins and a commercial inbetween with one of her songs.

Good Vids not nominated

September 15, 2010 at 7:51 pm (music, pop culture) (, , , , , , , , , , , , , , )

The VMAs had good vids this year, but it doesn’t mean that those were the best out there. Those were the best out of the most popular vids. Sometimes most popular coincides with best as with Bad Romance, but that’s rare.

Here’s a few awesome vids from this year:

Broken Bells  The Ghost Inside   Christina Hendricks is in this vid,  that’s definitely a bonus.

Interpol Lights   Its hypnotic and actually rather deep so beware.

I like Nicki Minaj’s vid for Your Love, because of the Japanese theme and that she actually let herself get killed. I actually felt sorry for her. That something that never happens in music videos for me.  I also like Crossfire- Brandon Flowers, because there are ninjas and there’s role reversal.  He’s the one being saved instead of doing the saving.

What other videos would you add?

End with Countryfest

August 29, 2010 at 9:36 pm (music) (, , , , , , , , , , , )

Well my music internship is now over.  I’ll miss it.  I had some fun times.  I had to figure out how to drive a 15 seater van for one thing and there was a lot of things I had never done before that maybe normal people had like make coffee.  I had never made coffee before. I kind of had to figure it out on the spot.  It was like can you make coffee? Yeah sure. Guess it didn’t taste too bad.

So the last concert I did was actually a fest which consisted of 4 bands-4 country bands.  I’m not into Country music too much unless its Country Rock which I kind of really like.  So I was really excited to see Gretchen Wilson and from listening to her I’m now interested to hear her next album which she said will be the first female Southern Rock album. She got her own record label to make sure it sounded like she wanted. The industry always seems to shy women away from rock. Women can rock too.  Besides her own songs which were all good, she started off the concert with the guitar from Scorpions Rock you like a Hurricane and later on she sang a Foreigner song Hot Blooded, which in my opinion was awesome.

I was more excited to see her than Montgomery Gentry which followed her in the fest.   Don’t get me wrong I recognize Gentry’s talent and liked their version of She Shook me All Night Long, but as I said I’m not a huge country fan. B2B was there, but I mostly missed their act while I was shuttling Gretchen’s band around.  Mickie James was there too.  I liked her song choices, she even did Tina Turner’s Proud Mary.  Sure that made for a lot of covers in one night, but they were all good so I didn’t mind.

I got to hear really goo music while doing this gig.  I’ll have to get my music fix some other way now. I’m in school now too, so it’ll probably be hard to go to concerts anyways, but there are some good ones coming up my way.

Heart

August 15, 2010 at 4:49 pm (Uncategorized) (, , , , , , , , , , , , , , )

I still think I’m in Take him to the Greek.  I saw a Russell Brand look alike who was definitely in a band. I meant to see what instrument he played but whatevers. I also saw a Kid Cudi look-alike.  He was just too tall to be Kid Cudi.

Ann and Nancy Wilson of Heart.

Thats it for the look alikes.  I saw Heart live. 🙂 It was almost as exciting as seeing Lady Gaga live for me.  And what annoyed me to no end were the people who assumed I couldn’t know Heart. The people who were telling me who they were although I’m quite sure I know way more about them than they do.   Or the people who were like I’m too young to appreciate them. And yeah it was surprising to people that I’m a huge fan or that they discovered I like Pink Floyd…I know that music came out before I was born. I’m well aware, but its good.

Heart is a real rock band.  I don’t see too many of those today. And for all the people my age who keep asking what songs Heart does which would explain why people assume I wouldn’t know- they do Barracuda which is on guitar hero and a version sang by Fergie is on Shrek 3.  They’re most awesome song live is Magic Man in my opinion.  That’s probably my fav Heart song in the first place.  What was extremely awesome too was their Reign O’er me cover

I also saw a guy I really wanted to take a picture of but since I was driving a huge van I couldn’t stop and take a pic.  He had an afro, had a vintage Heart tee on, and carried a record and sharpie hoping for a signiture.  He waited for hours after the show but unfortunately I don’t believe Heart even saw him. It would be kind of difficult especially considering how dark it was.  Poor guy.  But I did get a pic of the prints Heart’s dog lift on a couch.  I wish I got a pic of the dog.  I think he was a terrier and he was so cute and wore a WTF shirt.

I wish I got a Heart Tee, but since I got so many free Tees from previous bands I didn’t want to buy one…oh well I guess I can still buy one online.
