Singin’ in the Rain

November 26, 2010 at 9:24 pm (movies, music, pop culture) (, , , , , , , , , , )

I watched Singin’ in the Rain in time for Glee, but I really should have watched it before. It is truly a good musical.  The singing was good, I had Singin’ in the Rain in my head for a while after watching the movie. What was really funny were the jokes on bad dubbing.  The movie made fun of dubbing before bad dubbin was done on Kung Fu movies and  it basically knew Milli Vanilli would happen.

If you don’t know Milli Vanilli was a total fake. They had other singers sing for them but unlike Debbie Reynolds’ character, they didn’t get a big break after Milli Vanilli were found to be fakes. I wonder if they wanted to be stars themselves or if they were fine in the background. Not everyone wants to be the star, even if they can sing.

But to make a circular connection to Singin in the Rain, Milli Vanilli did a song called Blame it on the Rain.

What can I say? Lip Syncing is dangerous. Look what it did to Ashlee Simpson.

I’ve officially decided to write about my life as fiction. Seriously. I’ve had so much craziness happen.  A friend told me I had a day that was just like a teen movie. I would say it was like Take Him to the Greek. Although I could be wrong./ I haven’t seen that movie yet. In one day I went  to a biker bar, had to buy so much soda and beer that people were trying to invite themselves to my party, had a famous person say he loved me from the back of a minivan. I went the wrong way down a one way street sort of, had rowdy band members in the van and I’m sure you can image what they were talking about…Oh and Blake Shelton hunted alligator. He’s a pretty cool dude.

Oh and to end the night I drove past a possom that I feared was a giant rat with glowing eyes, two families of deer, and worst of all a skunk on my way home.  Thankfully it didn’t stink me.  I had just seen this black thing with a white stripe down its back in the middle of the road.

Day before that craziness I had joined a jam session with a guitar that wasn’t even mine.  I had never played an acoustic before.  Boy was that thing light.  So the session was at a rehab center and a crazed dude was outside trying to escape as a friend and I entered the building.

With all this craziness I have plenty of material for comics and stories.  Let’s see if I have time to use this. I have more where this came from. Well I have a concert tomorrow.  More will probably happen.

Not to mention I took a pic of a painting from the 1920s that looks just like Boy George that I really wasn’t supposed to.  I guess they might have asked me to delete it if they had caught me taking that pic…and here I am posting it for everyone to see. It was in the art museum and no photography was allowed…boy do I ever pay attention. So here it is.

Cool huh?

I saw the Counting Crows and their traveling circus and medicine show thanks to my inglorious internship and they were awesome. They had the opening acts go up to the stage interchangeably instead of making them go up first so that people would have the chance to see them knowing that people like to show up late to only see the opener.  And those guys were all good.  If you get the chance that is a good one. They were with Augustana and Notar.

Well I wrote more than enough.  Now I’m going to practice my guitar and get ready for another day of a concert-Sublime with Rome.

Oh I forgot, I watched Paranormal Activity and the next day included thunderstorms, flickering lights, and strange voices…that may explain my strange life.

Angelina vs. Jenn’s Type cast

February 2, 2010 at 6:53 pm (movies) (, , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , )

The movie roles taken by Jennifer Aniston and Angelina Jolie reflects their situations in life and affects how the public views them. Seriously why is Jennifer always single or wanting to get married in her movies while Angelina is potrayed as a very protective mother? Hollywood does this to more than Angelina and Jenn.  Its really quite bad and just manipulates how the we see actors.

Jennifer Aniston

He just not that into you

The Break Up

Rumor has it

Angelina Jolie

The Changeling

Have an more examples of this?

The Graduate Music

January 30, 2010 at 6:38 pm (movies, music, pop culture) (, , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , )

I just watched The Graduate and I must say that is an awesome movie.  Not to mention the music. Sadly the reason I watched it was because I saw the Jennifer Aniston and Kevin Costner movie, Rumour has it (watch isn’t very good, interesting, but not good) and found out that it was based on an older movie, the graduate which I was told was good.

I am now officially a Simon and Garfunkel fan especially for their lyrics.  I’m embarassed I wasn’t a fan before especially since I knew all about A hazy shade of winter (although I guess its because I do like the Bangles version better that I didn’t think of becoming a fan of theirs).

If you have not heard the Sounds of Silence and Mrs. Robinson listen to them now.

Seems the movie influence the lyrics of the Macarena with the line “I am not trying to seduce you.”

Hitchcock and Russian Roulette

November 13, 2009 at 2:00 pm (music) (, , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , )

What’s with the use of Alfred Hitchcock in songs recently.  Pitbull mentions him in Oche Calle.  But for him he wants to make a film and you know the kind I mean.  Lady gaga makes clear refences to Hitchcock’s movies in Bad Romance with “I want your psycho, your vertigo stick, want you in my rear window,” which she explains in her Alexa Chung interview as wanting someone to the point that your willing to accept even the deepest darkest parts of them and of course its a Hitchcock shoutout.

Russian Roulette’s making its rounds in songs as well.  But so far its hit and miss.  Lady Gaga says “Russian Roulette is not the same without a gun” in Pokerface.  And Rihanna’s got a new song called Russian Roulette, but so far I’ve heard at least as many complaints as praises about the song.

Like any of these songs?

Star Trek and Summer Movies

May 27, 2009 at 3:00 am (movies) (, , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , )

I just saw Star Trek yesterday. Really good.  I heard it was but wow.  It had both action and comedy.  Few things I didn’t like though. A few of the scenes went long (like two) Really shouldn’t complain about that.  And the fact that the guys that killed Kirk’s father came at the same time Kirk went into space.  What’s the chances of that? And then some of the roles in the movie did seem kind of old fashioned.  And did you notice all the fros? I guess they might come back.  I’m glad Sylar (don’t know the actors name) from Heroes made a good Spock.

I had planned to go earlier but I had ended up seeing Wolverine instead. That was good too.  I really hadn’t expected it to be good.  In fact I thought it was going to be horrible. Especially when they showed Wolverine and Sabertooth going through every war they could.  The CGI was amazing except for one scene in the mirror.  If you saw it you should know what I’m talking about.  Wolverine’s claws looked so fake in that scene. Gambit was freaking amazing! Loved his cards and fighting scenes.  Some of the scenes were funny and I don’t think they were supposed to be but that didn’t detract from the movie.  Like the scene in which wolverine broke free from the faculties and was running around naked and jumped off the waterfall.  Also that movie was overly full of “manliness.” So many muscles and fights.

So some other movies I want to see this summer?

Year One with Jack Black and Michael Cera  Looks hilarious

Land of the Lost with Will Ferrell  Funny?

GI Joe  the trailer look awesome

Don’t particularly want to see Transformers 2 though.  Looks kind of…and besides Megan Fox and Shia Lebouf’s jerk character?

What movies do you want to see?

Movies woo!

July 13, 2008 at 9:11 pm (movies) (, , , , , )

Summer is a good time to watch movies and catch up on some stuff.  Here’s what I watch recently:

Juno Good.  So many people said it and I finally got to see it and it proved to be good.

10,000 BC Kind of reminded me of a non gory Apocalypto without so many subtitles. It was really good and had a fantasy/sci fi twist that involved people from a land that sank (Atlantis?).

Vantage point So everyone in this movie was superman.  So many people got hit by cars and then got right back up. I find that hard to believe. Besides this and the fact that there was no explanation or motivation for the terrorists actions it was a good movie.

Superbad Like the critics said funny but with plenty of foul language. And more people getting hit by cars and then getting right back up. Good music helps too.
