Is it truly 1984?

February 7, 2011 at 12:13 am (commercial, technology) (, , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , )

In 1984, Apple had a commercial played at the Super bowl that made commercial history.

Years later, at the Super bowl, this Motorola Xoom commercial makes obvious reference to the 1984 commercial.  While its awesome I can’t say I’m going to go out and get a Xoom.  I kinda still want an ipad, even if that will leave me in the sea of sameness that is 1984. And too bad Motorola isn’t the only company making digs at Apple commercials right now. Tmobile got there first with the I’m a mac and pc campaign they’ve been on.

How do you like this Motorola commercial? Thing Apple turned into the bad guys from 1984 with its dominance over the mp3 and tablet markets? In 1984 Apple was the challenger that brought change to the market. Today who doesn’t refer to an mp3 as an ipod?  Or refers to a tablet as an ipad? Is it truly 1984 and can Motorola do what Apple did in 1984?

Copycat

December 6, 2010 at 7:28 pm (commercial, technology) (, , , , , , , , , , , )

I’m going to talk about a commercial.  Talking about ads is part of what I do anyways. But this one I noticed for this one to its similarity to the Apple ads.  At first I thought it was. I knew that I’m a PC was not planning to be in any more commercials so I just assumed they got new people for the roles.  So much for assuming. Its actually a T-mobile ad. I almost mistook it except it was bashing the iphone for its AT& T service. If I didn’t pay attention to it I would have except I paid attention because of the similarity.

I don’t want to run out for 4G with Tmobile.  In fact I don’t want Tmobile.  Tmobile’s currently 4th in the race for phone service.  What does this say about its service? Is it good? How far is its coverage? I know this ad is claiming Tmobile is better than AT&T, but at least AT&T is number 2 in the race.

And the other thing about this commercial I still think iphone from seeing it. I don’t think about whatever other phone is associated with Tmobile. I might not know any phones with Tmobile…the Evo? And do people get the service for the phone? Or the phone for the service? If people get the service for the phone I’m not sure how helpful this ad is, but maybe it’ll get people thinking.

Personally I have Verizon because they bought out Alltel. So far I haven’t had any service problems, but I’ve yet to upgrade to a smartphone.  If I do upgrade I don’t want Tmobile unless they can show me awesomeness.  My eyes are currently set on the iphone. The Droid seems more technologically advanced than what I would have use for.  Really I had someone show me all the thing the ipod Touch could do before I decided to get one.  I wouldn’t have bothered to get it otherwise. Maybe the Droid isn’t actually more advanced, but that’s exactly what I think from seeing the commercials and I’ve seen more people with iphones than Droids so its not on my list to get or even look at.

What did you think of this ad? And what kind of smartphone do you have or want?

Kia Soul This or That

June 19, 2010 at 9:04 pm (commercial) (, , , , , , )

I always thought the hamsters in the Kia Soul commercial were funny but this is hilarious.  Hamsters in toasters, cardboard, and washing machines driving down the street. And the song The Choice is yours by Black Sheep makes this commercial great. Check it out and try not to wet your pants from laughing.

Willy Wonka’s popping up

April 21, 2010 at 10:41 am (commercial, technology) (, , , , , , , , , , )

Willy Wonka’s been popping up in commercials recently.  The tunnel scene was used in a Lost commercial and the song Pure Imagination is used in an AT&T.  One is used for the creepiness, the other for the power of the imagination sparked in the original Willy Wonka. They were released around the same time.  Coincidence? And do you like the commercials?

Ukrops 10k Run

March 27, 2010 at 6:15 pm (art, Uncategorized) (, , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , )

I was out in the crowds running this morning for the Ukrops monument 10k.  I didn’t really prepare like I should have, but I ran about 3miles and walked in between.  I think I did pretty good.

I was wearing a q94 shirt I made to advertise my commercial so as I ran by people yelled out Q94! I thought that was awesome.  I plan to run next year now in costume, this was my first time running at all.  All the costumes were awesome.  There were Ompa Lumpahs, totoyas, darts, Jedi, a little of everything. I might do something from  the SNL cowbell skit. There was a lot of cowbell out there.

Seeing that it was freezing I had to wear a whole bunches of shirts under the T-shirt.  I also wore shorts with pink tights, knee high socks and legwarmers.  Unfortunately I only took pics of my shirt…so here’s my shirt:

Too bad Q94 wasn’t out there to see it.  Every other Richmond station seemed to be out there. With 35,000 people running there were a lot of people out there.  If I was Q94 I would have been there. I think most people just thought I really love Q94, which I do, but I was mostly trying to advertise my commercial.  Btw you can vote for it at http://www.q94radio.com/pages/commercialvoting.html.  I’m contestant #5, please vote.

Trying to beat the system

March 24, 2010 at 7:03 am (art, commercial, music) (, , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , )

I seriously don’t know what to do to advertise anymore except to go all out freaking crazy, because everything always turns out to be a popularity contest or a “who’s crazier” type of thing. Popularity online is basically whose got the most connections, but it could also be that someone knows how to beat the system, because they know the system.  Unfortunately I’m like the jester who decided to take on a real job.  I don’t know what I’m doing and I’m just juggling different things different ways until I find what works.  Therefore I’m struggling like a fool on a fool’s errand in the pursuit of happiness.

I entered a commercial contest for q94 and I’m struggling to figure it all out.   Please vote at http://www.q94radio.com/pages/commercialvoting.html

See the Pursuit of happiness in a commercial. It might be sad that life’s come to that, but its best not to cry over spilled milk.

Recognize these songs?

February 16, 2010 at 10:25 am (commercial, music) (, , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , )

Don’t feel bad if you only recognize these songs, which are awesome, only by the commercials.  Neither Goldfrapp or Empire of the Sun have made it in the US yet, but their songs have shown up in our commercials.

Vizio: Empire of the Sun “We the People”

Gameboy: Goldfrapp “Strict machine”  This is the ad from which I found out about Goldfrapp.  I just had to find out what the song was and who sang it.

Target: “Fly Me Away” 2006

Rihanna jagging Gaga’s style

January 22, 2010 at 11:54 am (commercial, fashion, music) (, , , , , , , )

Who wore it better? Lady GaGa vs. Rihanna

Rihanna we know you like Gaga’s clothing style, but at least usually there’s a difference.  Like you wear wear and spikes which Gaga’s not into.  But this time you practically wore the same outfit.  Its just a different color and you wore it after her to the same country she wore it in, Germany.  You should have at least worn it in a different country.  Especially since Lady Gaga wore it for a commercial.

Awesome Voice

September 20, 2009 at 3:14 am (music) (, , , , , , , , , , , )

I recently found that Empire of the Sun is awesome and not just their song walking on a dream.  At the beginning and of Empire of the Sun’s music video for Standing on the Shore there is an awesome voice like James Earl Jones.  If a guy had that voice it would seriously be like an axe commercial, but with other guys chancing him too, and not just gay guys.  The voice is that awesome.  The rest of the video is weird but cool.
