I finally got my site http://www.pop-mirror.com up and running! The first chapter of Snow is up. Check it out!
Two comics from my time at William and Mary. Both are true. I have a lot more stories…enough to make a show from college. And every day that goes by I have more weird tales. I’m rather embarassed to show these comics now that I’m much better at drawing and photoshop, but I think they represented my life in undergrad.
Work really was like being on the Office and yes I really did get chased by a Swamp Monster…
I know, I know everyone wants their own show. They think it’ll make them famous, but you probably already have to be famous to get your own show for the most part. I don’t want a show in order to be famous. Hell I don’t care if I’m actually in it. I just believe that the things that happen to me are so weird and funny that my life should be a show. A reality show would be the last thing that would give it justice really, but my life could easily be a sitcom or a cartoon. A comic would work too. Really it would be like one of those Nickelodeon or Disney shows like icarly, Even Stevens or something.
I said a few posts ago that my life’s like the Apprentice, which it is, but when you combine that with The Fame hilarity ensues and that hilarity is y life. If you’ve been reading my posts you know I’m obsessed with Lady Gaga so when I say the Fame I say it with what her definition. Everyone can have the Fame whether you’re actually famous or not.
So what happened this past week?
1. I was kidnapped
2. I had to basically run from people…I think people think I’m famous or something. It keeps leading to really awkward situations which I’ll get to another time…I feel like I need a body-guard quite often…
3. A lady tried buying Dane Cook tix from me that I don’t have. Not to mention Dane Cook was in Richmond several weeks ago…and I don’t even like Dane Cook.
4. Saw a Segway Tour. They always make me laugh. It’s a shame the Segway creator drove off a cliff on a Segway…
5. I went back to the Martin Agency so I thought I was on Mad Men. I wasn’t doing any advertising while I was there though…but I did see the Geico Gecko.
I say not. Its just being a bully. Just because Christians draw and paint Jesus all the time and sometimes in parody, doesn’t mean we should do the same for Muhammad. Yeah he’s a man, but no one was interested in drawing him until they found out it made Muslims mad and then we had that Draw Muhammad day. I’m a bit late on this, but this topic keeps popping up so I’m not terribly late.
What do you think about this and did you draw Muhammad on Draw Muhammad day?
I never really made a resolutions before for New Years, but I guess 2010 is as good a year as any to make some. It’s not exactly 2012 if you get my drift. The economy may be bad but its getting better. Do these resolutions ever work? I know they’re not supposed to be vague, should be small and not seem impossible. Guess I’ll find out throughout the year if they work.
Play my Guitar more I haven’t played at all lately 😦 Thing is I have to keep my fingernails cut and I like them long and even when I do cut them I still have to find time to play.
Exercise more Isn’t this on everyone’s resolution?
Blog more I took a long break and now I’m back and I plan to stay back. I also want to make my blog better and more interesting so people’ll read it.
Figure out Twitter. I’m there but to tell you the truth I don’t know how to do much on it. Like how do trending topics happen? And how do you use them to your advantage? How about twitpic and gaining followers? I think I have like two and one is like a Donald Trump ad person.
Finish my comic Snow and get it published or at least put it online
Either make it big quick or go back to school and I’m sure you can guess which is more likely to happen.
Get another job as long as its part time it doesn’t really matter what kind. I just need the moolah.
Meet more people and stay in touch with the ones I do know. I seem to be doing better at this one already.
Paint and draw more. More art throughout the year.
And lastly and most importantly find the time to do all this. I never feel that I have enough time for everything. Time seems to slip through my fingers.
I guess I better get to it.
Anyone else made New Year’s resolutions?
Seems like too many artists have been listening the This is Sparta remix and others like it. There’s a lot of those like the Christian Bale rant remix and all your base are belong to us remix. Although those are parodies these are real songs that people really enjoy listening to that use the same principle, but they aren’t supposed to be funny or are they? I really can’t tell. Listen to the Black Eyed Peas Imma Be and 50 cents’ baby by me and Jay Z’s On to the next one. Tell me if they aren’t just a little funny to you and if they don’t all sound kind of alike.
It’s all about simple repetition. I guess the songs that use stuttering would fall under this category too. Umbrella…ellla..eh..eh…eh, p…p..p…poker face. What do you think about all this repetition?
I finally read Maus. It’s a graphic novel split into two books, although you can find them in one, in which the comic artist portrays himself as trying to understand his father’s past. His father was a Polish Jew who survived the concentration camps during World War II. This book is not just about his father’s experience, but also about the artist’s experience with his father.
The graphic novel is truly a survivor’s tale: the father’s and the son’s. If you think comics are just for kids or the child at heart think again and read this semi autobiographically comic. Spielgelman uses the art form of comics to the fullest. The Germans are depicted as cats while the Jews are mice. There are also a few times in which the people are depicted in human form to separate to reality of making the comic and the comic itself. The use of exaggeration available to comics also helps with the storyline. The art is the basic black and white with square boxes that many comics have and its easy to follow.
If you’ve read Maus what do you think about it?
I just read The Manga Bible: From Genesis to Revelation by Siku and Akin. I liked it. It doesn’t go into too much depth considering that its the entire bible in one volume that around 200 pages. But because it doesn’t go into depth the reader is able to see the progression of time and the cyclical nature of how the Jews would believe in One God then be led astray and how they were brought back again. It also shows the similarity between the types of people chosen by God. No one was flawless.
And Jesus is awesome in here (not that he’s not awesome everywhere else), but I think people have a tendency of showing Jesus as kind of soft. In this book he’s definitely kick ass. And when he think about it he probably had to be. He lasted in the desert for 40 days and 40 nights, turned down the devil, knocked some sense into the Pharisees, the list goes on.
The manga bible provides a slightly different point of view than what you’re probably used to, but there are many points of view when it comes to understanding the bible.
I decided to do some drawings based on real people for a change instead of just drawing comics. I shaded them completely with pencil which I rarely if ever do. Then I scanned the images into the computer and put them in front of a black background, white seemed too boring.
Do you recognize these models from their ads?
In order from top to bottom: Calvin Klein, Ralph Lauren, Guess
Tell me if you like them.
