Christmas too early for ya?

November 20, 2010 at 10:59 pm (commercial, Uncategorized) (, , , , , , , , , )

As soon as Halloween was over it was like screw Thanksgiving, lets do Christmas. Usually its after Thanksgiving they worry about Christmas, but Christmas is the big money maker. I guess our economy’s not doing great and they say the recession’s over…

I don’t know why the atheists are against Christmas still, because honestly its all about consumerism now. Maybe they had one too many Christmas cards with the Nativity scene or God blessing  them.

The earlier I hear about Christmas, the more watered down the season feels for me.  Especially if I’m hearing about it in ads. I don’t mind talking about Christmas in fact I like to and I’m eager to celebrate the holiday, but not because I want stuff and that’s all the commercials focus on.  And I like Thanksgiving so lets not skip it for the eagerness of money and gifts that Christmas is going to bring.

What do you think? Fine with Christmas season starting right after Halloween? Or want it after Thanksgiving?

Recognize these songs?

February 16, 2010 at 10:25 am (commercial, music) (, , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , )

Don’t feel bad if you only recognize these songs, which are awesome, only by the commercials.  Neither Goldfrapp or Empire of the Sun have made it in the US yet, but their songs have shown up in our commercials.

Vizio: Empire of the Sun “We the People”

Gameboy: Goldfrapp “Strict machine”  This is the ad from which I found out about Goldfrapp.  I just had to find out what the song was and who sang it.

Target: “Fly Me Away” 2006

Gift of a GPS and scarves

January 12, 2010 at 1:13 pm (fashion, Uncategorized) (, , , , , , , , , )

I’m so far behind on my blog I’m still talking about Christmas.  Two gifts I received were a GPS and some scarves.  I love both of these gifts, but they both have a dark side.

Now when I got the GPS I was like yay I’m never going to get lost again.  Wrong.  Sure a GPS gives you directions, but if you’re given the wrong pronouncation of a word or the wrong address it can’t do much to help.  I heard west end instead of weston and it took me somewhere else.  At least I wasn’t like the couple who followed their GPS then got stuck in the snow.  At least their GPS got them found thanks to the signal, but that was three days later.  But seriously would you go down a back road in the snow?

I also received some beautiful fashion scarves for Christmas.  I’m so excited American women are wearing scarves.  I had envied foreign women their scarves for some time.  But I hate to be morbid when I say this.  Scarves are as dangerous as the capes on the Incredibles.  They are long and tend to get caught up in things.  A dancer in the 20s, Isadora Duncan, died when her scarf got caught up in a car’s wheel.  More recently a teen died when her scarf got tangled in a go-kart and a woman’s scarf got caught in a machine.  Scarves are dangerous, but I love them.  I also tend to tie them so they don’t  hang loose, because I really don’t want to have an accident involving a scarf.

Back from a long Break

January 11, 2010 at 1:43 pm (art, Uncategorized) (, , , , , , , , , , , , , )

Feels like I’ve been gone for  awhile.  I definitely didn’t mean to do that, but I was busy. For one,  I had to make Christmas presents and cards. Which as with everything I do took longer than expected.  It helps to have artistic ability when you’re broke and can’t afford to buy Christmas presents for everyone.  I did buy presents for my immediate family though.  Thankfully I’m not totally broke.

I made over thirty door hangers (don’t know what they’re really called) as part of a goody bag  for the kids where I work.  I found out little toys and do-dades add up so I decided to make gifts and bought some candy and pencils to go along with it. I attempted to make button bracelets for the girls, but they didn’t go over to well.  If you know how to make some please tell me.  Here are some of the hangers.  I should have taken pictures of them at the time, but I was too lazy.

and some of the templates I created

And then I made Christmas Cards on the computer.  I printed off about 16 with three different designs.
