Born this Way Friday

February 9, 2011 at 10:52 pm (music, pop culture) (, , , , , , , , , , , , )

This week I’ve been trying to keep occupied while waiting for Born this Way.  Don’t want to be a total monster right? Just a little one. The hype to Born this Way is building.  The lyrics were released then Gaga said that she was releasing the song two days early.  Originally it was going to be released on the same day as the Grammys. Now we’ll get it in time to sing along, well some people will be able to.  I might be a able to tumble along.  And then there’s her cover art for the album.  She’s got an old glam look from the 70s + monsterness. Alot of people have noted she looks like Ke$ha on the cover, but I’ll say she looks the way Ke$ha wishes she could and tries to look like so whatevs to that.  And everyone seems to think all blonde females look the same. And Little Monsters have been keeping BornThisWayFriday a trending topic  on Twitter all this week.  I’ve never seen this much hype over one song which makes it the most exciting song release of my time and its got to be as good or better than the hype. I’ve never heard a bad Lady Gaga song.  Just ones that wouldn’t necessarily get played on the radio.

In the meantime I’ve been imaging what Born this Way will sound like.  Will it be a dance song? I’m sure it has to be. But when she sang a snippet it was definitely a ballad.   What’s Gaga got in store for us this time? Ellen showed off her imaginings and got James Blunt and Justin Bieber to help her out. Who else has been imagining the song while awaiting Born this Way Friday?

My beautiful dark twisted fantasy

December 10, 2010 at 11:58 pm (music, Uncategorized) (, , , , , , , , , , , , )

This is a review on Kanye’s album, not my own beautiful dark twisted fantasy. That would more than likely interest you, but thats not something I would put on a blog. Maybe Kanye would. Actually I know he would. No need to discuss that.

So the album is amazing and everyone else is talking about it, so why would I? No one wants a blog that says what everyone else says cuz that would be instant death.

So here goes: the album is amazing because it combines the old school with the things of today. And the craftmanship in the production is astounding. Its got the old skool hip hop feel, but with autotune and plenty of rap (of course).   This album reminds me of Curtis Mayfield actually. Not when he was with the Impressions, but afterward when he started doing Funk.

And if you haven’t seen the Runaway video watch it.  Its what Kanye shows that he believes to be beautiful, well at least while making this album.  I can’t say he thinks or feels the same way for long, its just that this vid shows for at least a moment what he feels to be beautiful. It is not a waste of your 35 minutes. This vid is Kanye’s version of Michael Jackson’s Moonwalker and it’s got a tribute to him in it. Its very minimalistic, has Selita Ebanks, and a lot of ballerinas.  Its definitely at least a little twisted, but it goes well with his Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy.

Makes you want to be a Zombie doesn’t it?

April 22, 2010 at 11:19 pm (music) (, , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , )

Natalia Kills, a British-born Jamaican, is being compared to Lady Gaga and Rihanna.  I wouldn’t say she’s very Gagaish except that she says Space Cowboy just play that track which is also something Gaga has said and this one pic which kind of reminds me of a particular scene in Telephone in which Gaga wears the cigarette glasses. And like Gaga she works with Akon and Space Cowboy and is in Cherrytree records.  Ok I guess that’s a lot in common, but it still doesn’t make her Gagaish.

So far she seems far more like Rihanna in her Rated R phase. Zombie is a very dark track that starts off sounding like Mad House and she’s singing about being in love with a zombie for crying out loud its going to be dark. The  lyrics like ” Cold, cold, freezing, freezing Got my heart beating, beating” and  “Cause he chasing me nightlyAnd I want him to bite me” are disturbing enough to give you the creeps, but not to stop listening to the song.  The video reminds me of Russian Roulette and old video footage.  She kind of reminds me of Kanye with his videos Paranoid and Coldest Winter and his use of autotune. The over all effect of the song and video is a vintage horror movie with a rocking track.

Now enough with the comparisons. People do it too much, but really it can’t be helped.  A sound and image can call up similar sounds and images. The song’s good I think, but has a heavy use of autotune. I guess I have to wait to see how well she really sings. But Zombie’s a good start to the album Perfectionist that is scheduled for a 2010 release. With Zombie she shows crossover appeal to America, but we’ll have to wait and see. And her new single Activate My Heart seems good too.

Rihanna’s Streets of Rage

April 18, 2010 at 10:58 pm (music, pop culture) (, , , , , , , , , , , , , )

Video games are making their way into pop music. Rihanna’s got the streets of rage beat going in the song Bubble Pop, an unreleased song off her Good Girl Gone Bad Album.  But since its streets of rage its got a strong connection to her Rated R Album.  And to think I didn’t think she was angry then.  Seems she wants to kick some ass.  Although the lyrics for this one are more similar to Gwen Stefani’s Bubble Pop Electric than the songs Rihanna sings on Rated R.  I kinda like this song

Here’s some footage from the game which has some pretty sweet music if you ask me:

Too bad the song falls in between Good Girl Gone Bad and Rated R.  Its good, but it didn’t fit on the album.  What do you think? Do you like the song?  And what do you think about using video game beats in pop music?

Collector’s Fame Monster Edition Scary!

October 30, 2009 at 11:40 pm (music) (, , , , , , , , , , , , , )

Lady Gaga Announces Track List & Collector's Edition Art Book of THE FAME MONSTER

Lady Gaga has announced that she will release a collector’s edition art book of The Fame Monster to be released December 15. Everything included in the Fame Monster’s collector edition makes sense except for the lock of hair. It includes a collectable puzzle, posters, tons of pics and even paper dolls.  Why would someone need a lock of Lady Gaga’s hair! That’s so creepy! Eww.  And how big of a lock could it be anyways?  I mean she’s only got so much hair.  Maybe its from her extensions or something, but still!  What are people supposed to do with it? Smell it?  And isn’t only the really creepy fans who want locks of hair? I guess if you’re eaten by the fame monster creepy is what creepy does.

What do you think? Creepy or not?

Rihanna and the World of Tomorrow

October 21, 2009 at 10:09 pm (movies, music) (, , , , , , , , , )

For some reason for her next single Russian Roulette, Rihanna wants to look like Angelina Jolie’s character from Sky Captain and the World of Tomorrow.

Monster Ball Tour

October 16, 2009 at 11:44 am (art, fashion, music) (, , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , )

Lady Gaga Announces 'The Monster Ball'

I’ve been talking about Lady Gaga a lot recently, but hey she’s about to release the Fame Monster (sounds kind of scary huh?) and doing awesome things like starting the “first ever pop-electro opera,”  the Monster Ball.  She’s recently released the poster for her tour (without Kanye West).  She announce that her opening is  to be none other than Kid Cudi.  I guess she wanted a quirky rapper to go on tour with her or one of the rappers from the I make her say”I poke her face” song which also included Kanye and Common.  I do like Kid Cudi although I’m not a fan of this song.  I just think its stupid.  I like his song Day N Nite and how the vid includes The Wizard of Oz and Prince references and how half of the vid is a cartoon. What do you think of Kid Cudi going on  tour with Lady Gaga?

Do you like the Monster Ball poster?  I love it.   It looks really modelly (that’s not a word). She’s wearing the awesomeness she premiered on SNL.

Make sure you don’t confuse the name of the tour with the movie Monster’s Ball starring Halle Berry.  They have nothing in common except the name, as far as I know.

The tour sounds exciting.  I want to go.  What about you?

Beatles Commercials

October 12, 2009 at 9:07 pm (music, Uncategorized) (, , , , , , , , , , , , )

Beatles everything’s become popular (once again) thanks to no end to their good music, their albums re-release and rock band.  So their music’s being played in a lot of commercials recently that I’m sure you’ve seen.  I like that the Beatles songs are being played today, but it the moment it may be going overboard.

Macys with come together

Remakes

Blackberry  All you need is love  by who? And it doesn’t seem to be on youtube yet

Target  Hello Goodbye  by the Jonas Brothers.

Do you like the use of Beatles songs in commercials, and their covers, or wish it would end?

Rocking German Bands

September 20, 2009 at 10:04 pm (music) (, , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , )

Lately I’ve noticed a good number of German bands trying to make it in America.  The problem with a lot of bands trying to make it here is the accent and language.  Americans want to listen to their songs in English and don’t want it to sound foreign.  The countries that do the best with sending there music here are of course England and then Sweden.   There have been German bands such as The Scorpions who have made it big in America, but not many.  I would like to have more make it.  Here are a few that are making an attempt, as far as I can see.

Cinema Bizarre love songs (they kill me)  An anime inspired band that opened for Lady Gaga during her Fame Ball Tour.

Polarkreis 18  allein allein, the colour of snow  In the process of releasing their first album in America.

Tokio Hotel monsoon Had an English language album released and won some awards over here.

I also like oomph, enomine, and rammstein, but I don’t think any of these groups are making moves here.  Besides these groups are older.

If you listen to German rock.  Who are some of your favorites and what do you think their chances of making in America are?
