Thinking Man in a Dunce Cap

December 12, 2010 at 9:20 pm (rant, Uncategorized) (, , , , , , )

I found the thinking man wearing a dunce cap. The image shows me in class exactly.  Well maybe not exact, I’m not a man, but  I think really hard and yet it just leads to the dunce cap which means I end up feeling stupid no matter how hard I think out the problem.

I might fail out actually….because ultimately the thinking man can think as long as he wants, but if he never comes up with something interesting or good it doesn’t matter. In advertising if its not a sellable idea then what’s the point? Its a brutal business.

Sorry for the low res.  My cell’s camera is not always so reliable, but it gets the job down. So ever feel like the thinking man in a dunce cap?

Soylent Green is People!

December 5, 2010 at 9:04 pm (movies, rant) (, , , , )

I watched both Fast Food Nation and Food, Inc in the past few weeks and I’ve come to the conclusion that Soylent Green is People or at least where our food comes from is disturbing.

Granted our food is not people like in the movie Soylent Green, its mostly corn. Food, Inc showed that  basically everything down to gum, mouth wash, and vanilla extract is corn. Sorbitol and mono and di-glycerides can be made from corn and we all know about high fructose corn syrup. Corn in general is suposed to make us fat…cuz it makes you hungrier. Of course this wasn’t shown in the film, but knowing that made it all the more disturbing. Basically anything processed has corn and as Americans we eat a lot of processed foods. Not that we should never eat corn, but we shouldn’t mostly eat corn.

Currently I’m not sure what I can do with this knowledge…its probably going to sink away into oblivion within my mind. Its not something I want to think about much. The corn is bad enough, but eating poop in my meat is not a savory idea.  But I like my meat so what am I supposed to do about that? Stop eating it? Hmm I could give it up, but its hard when meat is so engrained in our conception of a meal.  Go organic? Good idea, but I’ll have to wait until I make some money cuz that is some expensive stuff.

What do you think?

Hell Week

November 30, 2010 at 4:17 pm (rant) (, , , , , , , , )

Hell Week is not Shark Week. Its not cool. Its three presentations in one week.  I hope I survive. Last night I almost didn’t make it home I was so tired and that was after one presentation.

Granted for that one presentation Comcast went down and we had to change location. It frosted over last night. And of course our presentation had technical gliches…ah for having marathon meetings.  The meeting seriously went from 12pm to 1 am. It did have breaks, but come on that’s ridiculous. And all my other meetings are going to be marathons as well…

Tonight we dine in Hell.

Trapped in a Box

January 17, 2010 at 3:56 pm (art, jobs, rant) (, , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , )

I’m having trouble deciding on a REAL career path because everyone always wants to put you in a box.  It doesn’t really matter if you fit there or not, but it allows them to better understand you and I suppose it is easier just to go into a box that’s already there instead of making your own. I’m not even sure I want a box at all.  Once you create a box you create limitations.  Although it does help to be categorized, but people will try to do that for you so I guess I don’t have to worry about that.

I could go to grad school for advertising/marketing in

Art Direction which is for people who like design, photography, fonts, basically think visually

Communications strategy which is for the people who ask why…and why not, insights for blue prints, eager to solve business problems, look for new ways to interact with people, are a culture junkie

So if I do communications strategy will I get the chance to do art? Or would I be too insanely busy? Which would in turn drive me insane.

And then if I go back for art I’m far behind the other applications in the fine arts department or to be an art director actually.  I have very little experience with a mac and that seems to be a pre req for all the concentrations.  Wtf is up with that.  Supposedly “all creative people use a mac” so I must not be “creative.”

And if I want to be a creative director some day it looks like being an art director or copywriter is the way to go.  Or being Lady Gaga. Sarah Jessica Parker, or Lindsay Lohan.  Celebs seem to be snatching up the office of creative director left and right.

Then I have the problem that I want to start a business, draw comics, paint, and I want to make money.  Which track will get me money and allow me to do what I really want to do?  Not to mention the price of grad school is outrageous.  Who can afford that even with loans? I feel sick to my stomach thinking about it.

There’s a No Doubt song Trapped in a Box that describes this problem pefectly.

Strange thing about Tweeter

September 12, 2009 at 8:36 pm (rant) (, , , , )

I have the most problems when I try using tweeter. I’m not sure if anyone else does or not.  It seems to be down half the time and  hacked a quarter of the time.  The rest of the time it just seems picky as to what goes on there which means I don’t go on tweeter much.

Last time I attempted a tweet it just wouldn’t go on the site for some reason.  It was like it was telling me not to write about co-workers  or something even if its anonymous.  I bet if I went on there now it would work, but I don’t feel like it.

The thing that I was going to write on Tweeter was that I think its strange that my co-worker looks like Perez Hilton and has the kids play a game called gaga.  (Its a daycare).

But if that’s not strange what is?

Singer Lady GaGa and Perez Hilton out at Katsuya for dinner in Hollywood.

Insurance eww

May 25, 2009 at 2:39 am (rant) (, , , , , , , , , , , )

Well now that I’m out of college and supposedly on my own, thanks to the economy I’m not really, I have to pay for my own insurance and stuff.  And really I wonder how people can do anything.  It’s why so many people do not have insurance.  It costs so much.  Health insurance for a healthy young person is out of hand.

And then car insurance…if you don’t pay for it you still have to pay 500 or so to the dmv so you might as well.  What’s another few hundred bucks in a year? And if you want a nice, sporty car forget it.  Even if its affordable price wise insurance might run about the same as the car.  And then for cars interest is just plain yucky. Then after all this stuff still have to worry about gas and what if it goes back over $3? It looks like its climbing again.

I really hope things get better insurance wise, because right now the standard of living is high.

 Hyundai Tiburon

 Chevy Colbalt

So I like these two cars. When they aren’t as high as the going market price around 15 or 16,000 they’re good prices.  However once insurance attaches itself to the price…because they’re so sporty the insurance is fairly high. Seems they want people to drive normal boring cars, but since I don’t want to I’m going to be charged.  And I can’t image what that price would be if I was a guy my age.

Looks like I won’t be making a living on art. Wouldn’t be able to afford anything.

Women to Bratz and aliens

April 21, 2009 at 5:21 pm (rant) (, , , , , , , )

Women need to make sure they eat.  Well everyone need to eat, but some women are so busy trying to be skinny that they don’t eat. Because they aren’t eating their appearance changes.  Their head appears bigger in comparison to the bodies and because the face is kind of emaciated too the eyes look bigger.  This makes them look like bratz dolls or aliens.  Seriously.

Look at this pic of Lindsay Lohan not that she’s the only one.  It’s unfortunate but the look is getting more common.

This is really scary looking too

see how the alien has a skinny body, big head and eyes?

The Bratz’s heads are large in proportion to their bodies as well. It’s kind of like the anime characters big heads and eyes.  This look scares me.  I would much rather see normal looking women.  Lindsay usually looks much better than the pic shown.

What do you think about this?

That was so wrong Jamie

April 14, 2009 at 3:30 am (rant) (, , , )

Jamie Foxx said some horrible things about Miley Cyrus.  I suppose it was in response to her saying she would destroy Radiohead for ignoring her.  But that doesn’t give a grown man the right to say such things about her.  Those comments were just downright mean.   I’m not a Miley Cyrus fan, but I can say that adults should not say things like that about kids.  The girl isn’t even 18 and he’s talking about her like that… eww…Jamie you upset me.  You sounded just like a kid, but you’re not.  Atleast when Miley says or does stupid things and acts childish, its understandable, because she’s not grown, and sometimes kids do stuff like that.  When adults do and say things like that it comes off as beyond stupid.  You should know better.

Fierce Swagger

April 11, 2009 at 4:42 pm (music, rant) (, , , , , , , , , , , , , )

The words firece and swagger are being used abused everywhere.  Fierce was popular after Christian Siriano on Project Runway was seen using it, but I thought it went out afterwards.  Now its back “Fiercer” than ever with everyone thinking so and so is fierce.  I’m sorry but everyone is not fierce.  And swagger… after hearing Swagger like you I know you may feel compelled to used the word, but its not for EVERY situation.  And its popping up in songs like Black Eyed Peas new song  Boom Boom Pow.

So before you use the words fierce or swagger think is it really fierce or is that really swagger.

Fashion puppet

April 10, 2009 at 4:12 am (fashion, rant) (, , , , , , , , , , , )

Sometimes I think that we are all fashion puppets even if we don’t want to be.  How does the fashion industry decide what’s going to be hot next season.  I know they look at trends of what people are buying, but they have to look ahead and predict what people will want to buy.

One problem with this is that if things are out of fashion like a certain cut of jeans you can’t find them and all cuts of jeans do different things for people so not everyone can wear every cut.  Skinny Jeans tends to make the butt look bigger because the legs are thin so the butt is accentuated.  On the other hand flair jeans make the butt look smaller because of the balance of the flair.  And flair jeans have been the main jeans selling for YEARS.  I’m kind of tired of them.  So do they continue to be in because people continue to buy them? And are skinny jeans in now, because boots and ballet flats are in. People need different types of clothes available because different body types demand different clothing, not to mention that people have different fashion sensiblities.

What I’m afraid of is that shoulder pads are supposedly coming back.  If they come in full force it will be hard to find things without some in there.  I’ve already bought something unknowingly with shoulder pads in them. I wasn’t totally happy about that.

Do you feel like a fashion puppet? Forced to buy what’s in style or not buy anything new at all?
