The Graduate Music

January 30, 2010 at 6:38 pm (movies, music, pop culture) (, , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , )

I just watched The Graduate and I must say that is an awesome movie.  Not to mention the music. Sadly the reason I watched it was because I saw the Jennifer Aniston and Kevin Costner movie, Rumour has it (watch isn’t very good, interesting, but not good) and found out that it was based on an older movie, the graduate which I was told was good.

I am now officially a Simon and Garfunkel fan especially for their lyrics.  I’m embarassed I wasn’t a fan before especially since I knew all about A hazy shade of winter (although I guess its because I do like the Bangles version better that I didn’t think of becoming a fan of theirs).

If you have not heard the Sounds of Silence and Mrs. Robinson listen to them now.

Seems the movie influence the lyrics of the Macarena with the line “I am not trying to seduce you.”

L33t or w4sted singers?

January 29, 2010 at 12:34 pm (music, pop culture) (, , , , , , , , , )

Symbols like those used in l33t you know that “cool” uncool computer language are being used by music artists.

Ke$ha’s got the $ in her name.  I guess it doubles for an S and the money’s she’s got to be making off Tik Tok. She beat Lady Gaga’s download record with it.

3oh!3  Gotta be exciting with the exclamation mark and those threes.

A gift of music and E music sux

January 27, 2010 at 12:39 pm (music) (, , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , )

Emusic is no itunes. Not even close.  Recently I downloaded 48 free songs.  35 of them came from emusic thanks to ticketmaster’s giveaway while the rest was from itunes.  I must add that emusic pretty much sucks.  I should have been a been to choose 35 songs in about 2 minutes.  Instead it turned into a 2 hour long hunt for some descent music.  No Madonna, Lady Gaga, Bat for Lashes, Weezer, REM, I started to get desperate after a while.  I did end up with good songs but it took far too long.

Here’s what I got:

Ozzy Osbourne  Tribute album

Little Boots Stuck on Repeat and Meddle

Lady Hawke  Paris is Burning

Ladytron   Ghosts, Runaway, Blue Jeans (Temple of Jay Remix)

Adele   Chasing Pavements and Hometown Glory

Santigold   LES Artistes and Lights Out

Creature     Who’s hot, whos not and Pop Culture

Roisin Murphy   You know me better (Body Jack Remix)

Kim Carnes     Bette Davis Eyes

Coolio    Gangsta’s Paradise

Bush       Little Things

Savage Garden     To the Moon and Back

Nik Kershaw     Wouldn’t it be good

Human League    Love me Madly?  and Sin City

Ever use emusic?  What do you think?

The conspiracy of Prozac

January 26, 2010 at 10:19 pm (Uncategorized) (, , , , , , , )

Why is prozac so close to the word prosaic?  I just learned this word, because I studying for the GREs and I have to say they look and seem very similar.  The company couldn’t mean for people to think that on prozac you become dull and unimaginative? Right?  I bet they were just thinking the general population wouldn’t know about the word prosaic and I guess they wouldn’t.  I sure didn’t know it until recently.  Maybe they are saying if you’re feeling prosaic you should go on prozac.

Hopefully we don’t live in a prozac or prosaic nation.

Laughing in songs

January 25, 2010 at 9:10 pm (music) (, , , , , , , , , , , )

Laughing is in a lot of songs and I can’t figure out what it brings to them. But here are a few songs with laughing.

Britney Spears Gimme More Just makes her sound crazy.

Sting /The Police   Roxanne I heard the laugh was because of an accident.

And this very funny song fancy pants with Lady Gaga and Lady Starlight.

Seems strange to compare these songs, but they do all have laughter in them. If you have anymore songs with laughing in it or an idea of why there is laughter in songs please share.

The many silhouettes of Lady Gaga

January 23, 2010 at 1:09 pm (art, fashion, music) (, , , , , , , , , , )

Lady Gaga on Launch my Line said that when designing a piece or choosing a piece to wear she thinks about a shape and asked the designers that if their aesthetic were to walk through an open door what shape would it leave?

Wondering about the shape that Gaga  likes herself I drew out the silhouette to eight of her outfits. See if you can recognize any of these.

As you can see there are a lot of shoulder pads and outfits that accentuate the hips. Can you guess these too? Just comment to say where you saw her wear the outfits or post a picture of Gaga in the same outfit  if you can.

I’ll draw more if I get requests.  Good luck figuring out the outfits!

Rihanna jagging Gaga’s style

January 22, 2010 at 11:54 am (commercial, fashion, music) (, , , , , , , )

Who wore it better? Lady GaGa vs. Rihanna

Rihanna we know you like Gaga’s clothing style, but at least usually there’s a difference.  Like you wear wear and spikes which Gaga’s not into.  But this time you practically wore the same outfit.  Its just a different color and you wore it after her to the same country she wore it in, Germany.  You should have at least worn it in a different country.  Especially since Lady Gaga wore it for a commercial.

Crazy Crazy Smiles

January 21, 2010 at 8:10 pm (music, pop culture) (, , , , , , , , , , , )

Who’s got the craziest smile? Lady Gaga, Beyonce, or Lindsay?

I love this scene in the paparazzi video.  Lady Gaga looks so scary here, but in a cute way which in a way makes it worse.

Sorry for this little tiny pic of Beyonce, but it was the best I could find (the most relevent not the best of Beyonce).  If you want to see the real smile watch the last few seconds of the video for ring the alarm.

Lindsay may just be cracked out, but sometimes she just looks plain demented.

Cadmium’s worse than lead?

January 21, 2010 at 11:39 am (art, Uncategorized) (, , , , , , , )

Recently I read in the newspaper that cadmium is worse than lead and China has started putting that in toys to replace the lead.  But if its so much worse then why do my art paints have cadmium in them? Some paints still have lead, but to be safer they put cadmium in them which is supposed to be worse than lead?  Does this make any sense to you? Personally I’m not interest in going crazy or destroying the environment which I feel I must do when I clean my palette.
