Yacht I bet you never heard of them.

September 30, 2009 at 7:15 pm (music) (, , , , , , , , , , , , , , , )

I heard about the group yacht by looking through an issue of Rolling Stones, the one explaining why the Beatles broke up.  There were a lot of other bands in there that I didn’t look up, but I thought Yacht looked interesting.  They were number 8 on college radio top 10 albums.  College radio usually has a lot of off beat stuff which is something that Yacht is, off beat.  It was the description that made me look them up.  “This dance rock crew release its new album-packed with rubbery synths and Nintendo bloops”

My favorite of their songs are Psychic City (Voodoo City) and Summer Song.  Both of the music videos feature actors that look somewhat similar to the actual band members.  Psychic city shows yin and yang with the female in black representing voodoo and the male in white representing Catholism who both battle and find love .  Summer song pokes fun at making music videos without a budget.  I crack up everytime I see it.

What do you think about this band?  Good or too weird?

CNN’s reporting of Obama

September 29, 2009 at 11:38 pm (art, comics) (, , , , , , , , , , , )

CNNReportI seriously feel like CNN’s reporting of Obama’s first 100 days and then his second one hundred days is a final countdown.  No other president was so scrutinized by the media. Although at the same time no other president has used the media so much and so effectively at the same time.  It just scares me to hear numbers that sound like a countdown associated with Obama.  What do you think about this?

Lady Gaga Live!

September 29, 2009 at 11:24 pm (music) (, , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , )

I finally saw Lady Gaga live.  It took months.  Originially she was supposed to come to Richmond April 3.  The place she was originally supposed to play at Toad’s place was deep in debt and closed down and then she was going to place at the National, but she was suddenly asked to play at American idol.  So it took her until the 28th of September to make it back to Richmond.  Thankfully September worked better for me than April.

Unfortunately her opening acts did not join her and for all the tickets to be general admission alot of the ticket prices were jacked up, but I don’t think the fans cared.  They were awesome! I guess I should say we, because I’m one too.  They dressed in lively costumes. Even Kermit the frog came.  There was this one guy who looked like Boy George that even posed when going down the aisle whose style I’ve chosen to call extreme new wave.  People commented how it was like the runway. Parents came and rocked out and brought there kiddies.  This was not a kiddie show.  I swear there was more than one 8 year old.  Before the concert they were playing dance remixes that sounded like video game music and hyped up the crowd.  One song even included a countdown that made even stand up thinking that Gaga was coming out and every few minutes everyone chanted Gaga, Gaga, Gaga.

Youtube does Lady Gaga no justice, but you can see like the entire concert was put on Youtube not too long after the show.  You can find it here or type lady gaga richmond into youtube. Her shiny outfits reflected onto the walls and crowds looking like moving stars and the lights created awesome shades against the wall of her and her dancers.  It felt like a rock show with the metal influenced band playing for her during and inbetween acts.  Her films: The brain, the heart, the face were played on different types of screens.  Her entrance was amazing. Gaga even threw gloves, a drum stick,  and a pair of shades into the audences. The whole show was great.  Best concert I’ve seen even if it was a bit short, a little more than an hour.  I’m sure the length will get better as she releases new songs but I wonder if she could have been on tour so long if she sang longer.

Eccentric pop

September 25, 2009 at 4:31 pm (music) (, , , , , , , , , , , , , , )

Pop’s gone eccentric as people have gotten used to “normal”, the artists who try to be cool over different and unique.  I like eccentricies.  They’re exciting.

There’s Lady Gaga

La Roux

Empire of the Sun

Florence and the Machine

Rihanna

Kanye

MGMT

Bat for Lashes

Who’s your favorite?

For a mailbox seriously?

September 23, 2009 at 11:24 pm (art, comics) (, , , , , , )

mailbox

Those blue mailboxes that sit out cost the post offices money, so post offices are taking them down in some places. And as less people send out snail mail the less services can be rendered.  Some people in the town of Otisfield, Maine are even willing to chain themselves to keep these mail boxes, which I find ridiculous, but people do need to send their mail out.  Often the mailboxes are not far away from the post office, but sometimes they are in places that that actually greatly help people such as in Otisfield which doesn’t even have a post office.  I think that mailboxes can be taken down where they’re just in front of a post office, but a town without a post office should have a place to sent their mail.  What do you think?  Do you think this is legitimate or just hilarious?

Woman in a cage

September 23, 2009 at 4:05 pm (music) (, , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , )

Lately I’ve seen some songs music videos featuring women in cages.

Namely Shakira She Wolf  , Rihanna Disturbia, and Ciara and Justin Timberlake Love, Sex, Magic.    Anyways a lot of people are acting like they don’t know what a she wolf is, but I’m sure they have to know.  Remember those old tex avery cartoons in which the man turned into a wolf when he saw a beautiful woman? Well this is the female version of the wolf, hence she wolf, but the she wolf is being supressed so she’s in a cage.

What do you think about this?

Super Clinton

This is old news now, but I think the comic is still relevent and hopefully you’ll like it.  After Bill Clinton helped free the two journalists in North Korea the media began to treat him like superman and before they mostly complained about him.  And then there was a lot of talk about sealing his legacy.  I guess the media’s saying Clinton’s going to be considered one of our best presidents whether he was or wasn’t.  What do you think?

Rocking German Bands

September 20, 2009 at 10:04 pm (music) (, , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , )

Lately I’ve noticed a good number of German bands trying to make it in America.  The problem with a lot of bands trying to make it here is the accent and language.  Americans want to listen to their songs in English and don’t want it to sound foreign.  The countries that do the best with sending there music here are of course England and then Sweden.   There have been German bands such as The Scorpions who have made it big in America, but not many.  I would like to have more make it.  Here are a few that are making an attempt, as far as I can see.

Cinema Bizarre love songs (they kill me)  An anime inspired band that opened for Lady Gaga during her Fame Ball Tour.

Polarkreis 18  allein allein, the colour of snow  In the process of releasing their first album in America.

Tokio Hotel monsoon Had an English language album released and won some awards over here.

I also like oomph, enomine, and rammstein, but I don’t think any of these groups are making moves here.  Besides these groups are older.

If you listen to German rock.  Who are some of your favorites and what do you think their chances of making in America are?

Awesome Voice

September 20, 2009 at 3:14 am (music) (, , , , , , , , , , , )

I recently found that Empire of the Sun is awesome and not just their song walking on a dream.  At the beginning and of Empire of the Sun’s music video for Standing on the Shore there is an awesome voice like James Earl Jones.  If a guy had that voice it would seriously be like an axe commercial, but with other guys chancing him too, and not just gay guys.  The voice is that awesome.  The rest of the video is weird but cool.

Mash-ups and Cool Djs

September 20, 2009 at 12:55 am (music) (, , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , )

Mash-ups and remixes are spectacularly crazy and much of the time people are doing them in their own homes and getting them out to the people via youtube.  Sometimes the remix is even better than the original.  It’s not just professional djs anymore not that the pros are slacking.  Here are some of my favs pros and not.

Robin Skouteris  Madonna VS Lady Gaga VS Pitbull, Robin Skouteris VS Nirvana, Cyndi Lauper VS Missy Elliott

LMFAO  Love LockDown Remix, Shooting Star  I think both are better than the original

SoBraLiajdyjonkt Shakira/Ciara/Justin Timberlake/Lady Gaga/Pitbull

Justice  Electric Feel, Genesis

imbastardbob Wolf Game, Love is a Circus, I kissed a girl from miles away Sometimes Songs go with other music.

I have a few more I’m going to talk about soon.  Tell me what you think about these and name some of your favs.
