Paparazzi!

May 31, 2009 at 10:10 pm (music) (, , , , , , , , , , , )

Lady Gaga’s newest music video Paparazzi was released!  I think its both awesome and scary.  It reminded me of what BBC said of her in the review of The Fame.   They said with songs as cold as Love Game, Lady Gaga was number one on their list of artists capable of murder.  Although the Minnie Mouse outfit and sunglasses were awesome, she has one of the most evil smiles I’ve seen.  In part because of the lipstick.  The vid is framed as a old style Hollywood movie.  There are a lot of awesome costumes and costume changes with some shocking moments so prepare yourself and enjoy Paparazzi.  And of course the teacup makes an appearance.

One thing I learned from this video is not to accept drinks from Lady Gaga.  What do you think about the music video?

William and Mary Thriller

May 29, 2009 at 2:30 am (Uncategorized) (, , , , , , , )

Just so you know William and Mary of Williamsburg, VA beat the Thriller world record of most people dancing.   The previous record was around 170 and now its 242.  More people have danced to Thriller at once, but they didn’t apply to the Guiness Book of World Records so they never increased the record.

I was out there.  But unfortuanately you can’t see me in the video.  Although I can be seen in this picture.  There are more views of the dance considering that people were lined up on the sidelines to watch.  If only they had joined we would have had more people, but its over now so I shouldn’t dwell on it.

Anyways our class president who is wearing the hat in the video was obsessed with Michael Jackson and Thriller.  He danced it everywhere and eventually convinced a lot of people to come out and dance to it.  So after several hours of practice we did the final dance that beat the record.  They were really strict about signing up people and counting. Watch the end its really creepy. :-)  Well it was fun and I can say I was a part of a World record.

And as you can see some people dressed the part.

Nose knows best

May 29, 2009 at 2:17 am (jobs) (, , , , , , , , , )

Because I have a good nose (I can smell really well) people have told me I could become a nose my whole life.  Like it was something I could just go and do naturally.  Recently I came across this article that shows that it would be otherwise.  I would have had to learn chemistry and French.  The noses are perfumers and make the perfumes and I just thought they smelled them…ha….and would have to learn French because most Perfumeries are in France.  And then I would have to train my nose…while its all possible I don’t think I’m going to go back to school for a chemistry degree or to learn French, although I would like to learn the language.  So I’m going to forget about being a nose.

I love the smell of Davidoff’s Cool Water. You should smell it.  The scent isn’t over powering it was named well.  The price isn’t bad either if you want to buy it.

Yo! Majesty Don’t Let Go

May 27, 2009 at 9:36 pm (music) (, , )

Don’t Let Go by Yo! Majesty was one of those vids on You Tube that were in the related videos.  The music video cracked me up but its not for everyone.  There is a lot of one jiggling booty throughout the video and a lot of latex. It sounds really bad, but its actually funny.  This lady goes around jiggling herself, first in a hair salon full of women then on the street with people watching.  While you can watch if you want.

Anyways listen to the lyrics. What do you think?

Star Trek and Summer Movies

May 27, 2009 at 3:00 am (movies) (, , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , )

I just saw Star Trek yesterday. Really good.  I heard it was but wow.  It had both action and comedy.  Few things I didn’t like though. A few of the scenes went long (like two) Really shouldn’t complain about that.  And the fact that the guys that killed Kirk’s father came at the same time Kirk went into space.  What’s the chances of that? And then some of the roles in the movie did seem kind of old fashioned.  And did you notice all the fros? I guess they might come back.  I’m glad Sylar (don’t know the actors name) from Heroes made a good Spock.

I had planned to go earlier but I had ended up seeing Wolverine instead. That was good too.  I really hadn’t expected it to be good.  In fact I thought it was going to be horrible. Especially when they showed Wolverine and Sabertooth going through every war they could.  The CGI was amazing except for one scene in the mirror.  If you saw it you should know what I’m talking about.  Wolverine’s claws looked so fake in that scene. Gambit was freaking amazing! Loved his cards and fighting scenes.  Some of the scenes were funny and I don’t think they were supposed to be but that didn’t detract from the movie.  Like the scene in which wolverine broke free from the faculties and was running around naked and jumped off the waterfall.  Also that movie was overly full of “manliness.” So many muscles and fights.

So some other movies I want to see this summer?

Year One with Jack Black and Michael Cera  Looks hilarious

Land of the Lost with Will Ferrell  Funny?

GI Joe  the trailer look awesome

Don’t particularly want to see Transformers 2 though.  Looks kind of…and besides Megan Fox and Shia Lebouf’s jerk character?

What movies do you want to see?

Insurance eww

May 25, 2009 at 2:39 am (rant) (, , , , , , , , , , , )

Well now that I’m out of college and supposedly on my own, thanks to the economy I’m not really, I have to pay for my own insurance and stuff.  And really I wonder how people can do anything.  It’s why so many people do not have insurance.  It costs so much.  Health insurance for a healthy young person is out of hand.

And then car insurance…if you don’t pay for it you still have to pay 500 or so to the dmv so you might as well.  What’s another few hundred bucks in a year? And if you want a nice, sporty car forget it.  Even if its affordable price wise insurance might run about the same as the car.  And then for cars interest is just plain yucky. Then after all this stuff still have to worry about gas and what if it goes back over $3? It looks like its climbing again.

I really hope things get better insurance wise, because right now the standard of living is high.

 Hyundai Tiburon

 Chevy Colbalt

So I like these two cars. When they aren’t as high as the going market price around 15 or 16,000 they’re good prices.  However once insurance attaches itself to the price…because they’re so sporty the insurance is fairly high. Seems they want people to drive normal boring cars, but since I don’t want to I’m going to be charged.  And I can’t image what that price would be if I was a guy my age.

Looks like I won’t be making a living on art. Wouldn’t be able to afford anything.

Tim Gunn Iron Man

May 23, 2009 at 4:02 am (art, fashion) (, , , , , , , )

Iron Man and Tim Gunn Comic? Looks that way.  Tim Gunn’s supposed to make the Iron Man suit work. That seems like an interesting combination and its set to come out in August.  I’m kind of curious to see how this turns out.  And who is the target audience for this anyways?  Its a clever trick that seemed to work with the Obama Spiderman edition.  It’s going to be called “Models Inc.”  I’m looking forward to it.  How about you?

Make it work ;-)

Comic prowess

May 23, 2009 at 3:49 am (art) (, , , , , , , , , , , , , , )

I figured I better write some about art since my blog is titled “the life of an artist in the making.” I’ve found from drawing comics and writing them that doing both is rather difficult.  Besides the fact that it takes longer doing both, I’ve found that graphic novel artists need to know about fashion, architecture, plants, facial expressions, and just about everything you see.  After all it  is a visual art. On the otherhand a writer of a novel has to have the vocabulary and knowledge in order to describe these things.  At least I think they should.

Graphic novels, manga and such should be taken seriously at least by the artist/authors, but I have the feeling that a lot of American manga is not taken very seriously.  The most of the stories seem to be comedic in that has gag after gag.  They’re often over photoshopped. Americans still have awesome graphic novels though. Britains got awesome ones too coming from Neil Gaiman and Alan Moore. Problem is they don’t seem as popular here as manga.  Compare the graphic novel section to the manga section in a book store.

Graphic novels are becoming more popular as more movies are being made from them like Corraline and The Watchmen and as people realize graphic novels aren’t just silly none sense as with Marjane Satrapi’s Persepolis (also made into a movie) and Art Spiegelman’s Maus.

British Invasion

May 22, 2009 at 1:05 am (music) (, , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , )

Seriously what happened to American music? We still have rap, but what about pop, rock and everything else? There is a serious British invasion going on right now in part because their music is so good.  I mean have you looked at Britain’s got Talent.  Even people coming from no where like Susan Boyle can belt out a tune (awesomely I might add).  I know America’s got Talent but where is it?

There’s a lot of Blue Eyed soul coming out of the UK with the likes of Amy Winehouse, Duffy, and Adele.  They’ve got the Ting Tings, Estelle, Lily Allen…then there’s Coldplay, Franz Ferdinand, M.I.A, shall I continue?

Then it seems like they want to steal our good muscians.  Madonna seems to think she’s British. Michael Jackson’s supposed to be touring there and not here.  A British magazine claimed Lady Gaga was British once.  And a how lot of other people thought she was British, because it used to be if you were eccentric and could pull it off you were from the UK.  Look at Boy George and Elton John. Then both Lady Gaga and Brandon Flowers of The Killers performed with The Pet Shop Boys at the British Awards Show.  Not to mention that Flowers has said ”We’ve been embraced in Britain in a way that I’ll never understand, and it’s such a wonderful thing,” he says. “But over here [in America], people are still so obsessed with Led Zeppelin and Nirvana, those sorts of bands, that nobody else is allowed [to grow].” and Lady Gaga has commented on how Britain is more of accepting of her than the US.

Do you think the US doesn’t allow talent to develop as well as the UK? I think that if someone’s strange or different the US doesn’t look as favorably on them.  I think that’s the big reason Adam Lambert didn’t win American Idol.  What do you think?

Flashback Connection: Hung up

May 21, 2009 at 1:32 am (music) (, , , , , , , , )

Madonna sampled Abba’s song Gimme Gimme Gimme (A man after midnight) in Hung Up.  She used a lot of disco influences in the song and video.  Madonna said she had watched Saturday Night Fever over 20 times in order to perfect a wini roll (At least I think she said wini roll).  I think that’s a bit much.  I haven’t seen the movie yet, but I plan to,  so I’m not going to question her state of mind.  Although this is Madonna so her state of mind is…always some where else.  She’s supposed to come out with another album soon.  I’m looking forward to whatever she’s coming out with.  Hope it’s good. Wonder what influences she’ll use this time.
